Spring 2025 Newsletter

A Message from Andrea

We’re so incredibly thankful for the support offered from the community, including our campus connections. One of our campus partners is the CSU Health Network, which offers important services, and many of our FSP students have found value in meeting with a counselor.

After a year of having Laura G. Templet, MSW, LCSW as our mental health liaison to the Fostering Success Program, in January 2025, both parties, CSU’s Health Network and FSP, agreed to deepen and make the connection more substantial for students.

Laura has been a mental health professional at CSU’s Health Network for over 10 years and is a Foster/Adoptive parent herself. She has a passion for connecting with the population of students and mentors connected with FSP.  Now that we have seen that students and mentors are utilizing this on-site service at our office, we will continue to coordinate the Multi-Cultural Consulting hours in the fall.

On the right, Laura is pictured in our FSP offices during weekly Multi-Cultural Consulting hours, where FSP students can drop-in or schedule an appointment with Laura.

A Note From Katelyn Berryman, FSP Student, Mentor and Facilitator

My time at FSP has been truly transformative. Growing up as an independent student, I often felt isolated, never quite fitting in anywhere. This led me to rely solely on myself for much of my youth. When I arrived at college, I didn’t expect much to change. That is, until the Fostering Success Program reached out and introduced me to a community of students with similar experiences. I was immediately drawn in and attended as many events as I could. I applied to become a member of the Leadership Council and, eventually, a mentor. I wanted to give back to the community that had supported me in ways I had never imagined. Being able to guide students who were in situations such as myself or even hosting events like bowling for students has been so rewarding. When I started college, I didn’t know if I would find the guidance and support I needed, but I am so incredibly grateful to have been proven wrong that I wasn’t alone. None of this would be possible without the generosity of donors— so from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much.

Events

Through a partnership with Colorado Department of Education, CSU hosted a Highly Mobile Student Summit for two hundred K-12 educators, community organization leaders and college staff across the state of Colorado. Our FSP Facilitators, all Fostering Success Program students, shared their experiences and trained educators on best practices for transitioning foster and homeless youth from high school to college. One summit participant shared the following, “I loved hearing from all the young people. They were strong, powerful and impactful in the delivery of the summit and their stories.”

FSP Interest Form

We love the various ways the community supports our students! We’ve developed a form that allows individuals to express interest in giving of time and materials, such as making a quilt for one of our graduates or contributing hygiene products to the FSP Care Corner; donating a care package item is also something supporters love to do, and watch this care package unboxing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDv2kR3wa_M to see contributed items. Complete the FSP Interest Form so we can learn a little bit about you, sign up for opportunities, and stay in the loop with FSP program updates: https://form.jotform.com/250163748133151
